Kobudo, or Ryukyu Kobujutsu, refers to the martial arts weaponry systems originating from Okinawa. The term Ryukyu Kobujutsu translates to “old martial way of Ryukyu (Okinawa)” and encompasses the study of traditional weapons, including:
- Bo (six-foot staff)
- Sai (metal truncheon)
- Tonfa (handled club)
- Nunchaku (flail)
- Jo (short staff)
- Eku (boat oar)
- Kama (sickle)
Training methods include kata (forms), bunkai (practical application of kata), kihon waza (basic strikes and blocks with balanced transitions), and partner drills.
